Recommended Dosage & Administration
Dosage Guidelines:
  • Adults (18+ years): 1 tablet twice daily (every 12 hours) or as directed by physician
  • Elderly Patients: Same as adult dose, monitor renal function
  • Children (>12 years): As directed by physician based on body weight
  • Children (<12 years): Not recommended without medical supervision
Administration Instructions:
  • Timing: Take with or without food, preferably at the same time daily
  • Method: Swallow whole tablet with adequate water, do not crush or chew
  • Duration: Complete the full prescribed course (usually 5-10 days)
  • Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered, skip if almost time for next dose
  • Important: Do not double dose to make up for missed dose
Critical: Complete the full course even if symptoms improve to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Primary Indications:

Mechanism of Action:

Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefpodoxime from bacterial enzymes, extending its spectrum against resistant bacteria.

Contraindications:
  • Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins
  • Previous severe allergic reaction to beta-lactam antibiotics
  • Severe renal impairment (adjust dose as per medical advice)
Monitoring Parameters:
  • Complete blood count during prolonged therapy
  • Liver function tests if used for extended periods
  • Renal function in elderly or compromised patients
  • Signs of superinfection or C. difficile colitis
Note: This antibiotic is effective only against bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections like common cold or flu.
